A Few Questions and Answers:
Q: What if I'm not good enough?
A: The program is designed for beginners. Coach Mary is very experienced in creating workouts to challenge all ability levels. As long as you know HOW to swim, and how to ride a bike, you'll be just fine.
Q: Do I need to have a fancy triathlon bike?
A: Nope. You may use a mountain bike, a hybrid bike, a road bike or a triathlon / time trial bike. If you're not sure whether you'll ever do another tri, just borrow a bike or use what you have. If you borrow, please ensure that it's the right size bike for you. (Ask Coach Mary or Main Line Cycles to check sizing / positioning if you're not sure.)
Q: What if I must miss a few workouts (e.g. vacation)?
A: No worries. You can make up one or two missed workouts during any other group training sessions, or just jump back in when you return from vacation. You will have access to Coach Mary via phone and email for any questions about missed topics.
Q. I can't make the information session... Can I still join?
A: Of COURSE! Coach Mary may schedule one more information session at the start of the program if there's enough interest, so email Coach Mary to let her know that you're interested in another one. Even if another one is not scheduled, you can call or email Coach Mary for information or her handouts / slides.
Q: The dates and times of sessions don't fit into my schedule. What are my options?
A: Ideally, all participants will attend the same training sessions together, but we're all busy with other things, and AIM will make every effort to accommodate various schedules. Email Coach Mary to request different days/times.
Q: What if I want to race the International or Half Iron Distance instead?
A: While the program is designed around a sprint distance event, intermediate or advanced athletes with sufficient conditioning may join the group as they prepare for a longer event.
Q: What if I want to race a Duathlon instead?
A: While the program is designed around the sprint triathlon, athletes may choose to skip the swim to focus on running and biking. In this case, athletes may choose to attend a group running workout in place of the weekly swim workout.
Q: What if I need more than 2 weekly group sessions?
A: AIM offers a range of services to fit every need, from private coaching to personal training to group workouts and personalized training plans.
Q: I come from a single-sport background (e.g. running). Can I have a modified schedule that incorporates more/less of that sport?
A: Yes, AIM specializes in creating custom training plans to work around an individual's strengths, weaknesses and schedule.
Q: I don't live in Philly... Can I still participate?
A: Sure, you can follow the same training plan as the group, or have AIM create a custom training plan. AIM may also be able to record or broadcast the expert lectures for out of town participants... Email Coach Mary to ask about how to train from another city/state!
Q: What should I bring to the workout sessions?
A: See the chart below.
